Kashong CA 3/28/26
Seven EBS members met at the Kashong Conservation Area parking lot. Just before beginning our birdwatching walk we met Mitch Wilber, the chairman of the Kashong Conservation Area Committee who was there updating the information board. He asked if he could take our picture next to the new sign for their upcoming newsletter. Webster Park, Whiting Rd Preserve 3/15/2026
Unfortunately, a damp chill was upon our group of six for this trip. We were trying to see grosbeaks, redpolls or crossbills before they returned to their breeding areas to the north. We saw none of our target species, but were glad to see the varied habitat and vowed to return at some point. And, of course, we saw more common species, as listed below. North end of Seneca Lake 2/28/26
After a slow start at the Finger Lakes Welcome Center, our group of nine members moved to the Park. We were then able to identify the scaup and redheads rafting together. Forming their own group, Common Goldeneye were also observed diving and displaying. At the sprayground, we encountered 2 white gulls that were thought to be Glaucous Gulls and that is what I reported initially.
